Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Dog Treats & Dog Dental Chews

What dog dental treats do vets recommend?

Vets often recommend to us pet parents dog dental treats specifically designed to reduce plaque and tartar buildup. Look for advice from the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC), and treats made specifically for dog oral health like our Dental Jerky.

Are dental dog treats good for dogs?

Dental dog treats can be very good for dogs. They help keep teeth clean and can improve breath and oral health. But choose treats suitable for your dog’s size, age and dietary needs. And remember, all things in moderation.

Do dog dental chews, dental treats, and dental bones really work?

Yes, dog dental chews, treats, and bones can help maintain oral health. They work by mechanically cleaning the teeth as the dog chews, reducing plaque and tartar buildup. However, it’s best to use them in alignment with your vet’s direction, usually with regular dental care cleanings and routines like brushing.

What treats are good for my dog’s teeth?

Dental dog treats. That is, treats designed to clean teeth and reduce tartar. Those types are great for your dog’s teeth. Look for chewy or crunchy treats that require some effort to bite through, as these can help scrape away plaque.

Can I give my dog dental dog chews every day?

Yes, you can give your dog dental chews every day, as long as you choose a treat appropriate for their size and dietary requirements. A dental treat or two every so often is a great way to help maintain your dog’s oral health, but remember to adjust their daily food intake to account for the extra calories!

How often should dogs have dental chews?

Most dental chews are for daily use, like brushing your teeth. Daily use helps prevent plaque and tartar buildup. That said, always follow the instructions on the packaging and consult your vet if you’re unsure.

What are the best treats for old dogs with bad teeth?

For older dogs with bad teeth, soft treats are often best. Look for soft chews or malleable dental treats that won’t be hard on their sensitive teeth and gums. Moist, meaty treats can also be a good choice, as they’re easier to chew.

How long can a dog live with bad teeth?

Dogs with bad teeth can still live a full life, but dental issues can lead to serious health problems and even shorten a dog’s life if not treated. Regular dental care and vet check-ups are vital to prevent complications that can shorten a dog’s life. And a dental dog chew (or two) a day can help keep the “doctor” away!

At what age do dogs’ teeth start rotting?

According to the American Veterinary Dental College, dogs’ teeth often start to show signs of decay as early as 3 years old, and most dogs have evidence of periodontal disease by then. Smaller breeds may be more prone to dental issues at a younger age.

What are the symptoms of tooth decay in dogs?

Things like bad breath, pawing at the mouth, changing how they chew or eat, and depression can all be signs of tooth decay in a dog. Regular dental cleanings, brushing, and dental treats can help prevent decay.

I like the minty smell

I just received them and I am still trying them out. I like the smell and the size. My dog is 14 year old and I just adopted him. I am not sure if he had had a teeth cleaning but his breath is pretty bad. It will probably not cure it but hopefully it will help.

Dental Jerkey

Our dog loves it. Every day, after he goes outside, he rushes in to where the treats are kept. We tried other dental sticks, but he only likes these.

Dogs favorite

My puppy gets three in the evening as he goes to bed. He leaps into his kennel grab them and snuggles with them before chewing them up. Really likes them.
